Prelude

So...what exactly is going on here?

Back when I was making Adolph's Beautiful America, there were only two main places I wanted it to screen - Texas and the Czech Republic. Earlier this spring, it played at the Texas Film Festival...and next week it's playing in a Czech town called Olomouc in thier "AFO Festival". I missed going to Texas, I certainly wasn't going to miss the CR.

Luckily, my schedule allowed me time to go. Somehow I decided, though, that if I'm going to trek all the way to to Eastern Europe, there's no sense in just being around for the festival. So what was originally 5-days-in-Bohemia morphed into 14-days-in-London-Brno-Olomouc-Poland-Estonia-(and maybe more). I've been to Prague a couple of times and loved it...but it's only stoked my fires to push further east past the old Iron Curtain. So that's what I'm gonna do.

I leave tomorrow. JFK -> Heathrow. A night in London and then easyJet or RyanAir to Brno, Czech Republic.

So why the blog? I'm going all by my lonesome and need something to keep me grounded to all you guys. Also, there's no way I'll manage 48 hours without getting on the internet, so I might as well post some pictures and write some updates while I'm at it. Assuming the infrastructure is up to snuff, I'm going to try and manage several posts a day. (Unless me and Albert Maysles are passed out under a table somewhere...)

Also, it makes interest in this venture a totally active experience on your part. (How about 'dem apples?!?) So, what does that mean? Basically, if you are (for instance) sitting in a florescent-lit basement somewhere and would rather not hear about what wonderful Estonian duck blood soup I'm slurping, you won't get any mass emails about it.

But, of course, if you want to follow every meandering twist and turn, stay tuned and hit reload often. Against my better judgement, comments are open to all.

Favorite guidebook revelation (thus far).

The currency of Estonia is the kroon. The abbreviation for Estonia is EE. So, their sign for money is EEK. Eek!

4 days out....

...and just trying to figure out the fun. (This is not at all European...or without a leash.)
